Riding Safety Part 1
Was hoping to start this series on riding safety that I have experienced for quite some time back but never really had the chance…
One of the biggest excuses that I have heard car drivers use / say whenever they were involved in a car accident / close to one say… "I did not see that bike".
Well I say, if you did not see them, we make sure they hear us.
Most if not all bikes are fitted with disk type of horns that sometimes give about 50dbs.
Quite miserable considering that now a dayz cars are so well sound proofed, these car drivers prob cannot hear them too.
Esp when they "pump" up the volume of their stereo…

Qn, When a car looks like it’s on a collision course with a biker (Coz he / she did not bother to check his / her blind spot), should the biker
Here’s what I would do… (I am not suggesting for anyone to do this but this is juz my thoughts…)
Avoid him / her and HONK!!! Honk to make sure that he / she knows what he / she has almost caused.
Some people may say… almost only mah… But what if it happens?? A real collision?
Another case of… "Oh sorry I did not see you coming?"
I "seen" too many accidents of this sort…
I guess there are many ways to honk as well…
The short 1/10 sec honk as a very gentle reminder.
The 1/2 honk as an OOiiii…
The 1 Sec wake up your idea….
The Non stop Honk… xxxxxxxxxxxx…….
I would do a 1 Sec honk to make sure that the driver knows what is going on and what he / she almost caused.
Anyway, to most, if not all my biker friends, I would advise this "so far" still legal modification… changing to an
Electrical HORN, some people juz calls them air horn.
According to the specs… http://www.fiammamerica.com/Product.asp?ProductID=167
These are 130bd @ 4".
Give & take, it’s about 90-100bd @ about 1m still.
Still very loud. (Even though my Church’s Service that I am on duty maxed @ 115bd once.)
How loud is that?? It’s about the sound of a concord taking off.
These babies run connected to a relay which would not affect the battery juice of your bike.
But these Air Horns… (Wished I could install them)
But they would suck too much juice from the batt and may damage them… sigh…
Anyway…
Be heard, dun be afraid to use your horns… But of course, dun be malicious about it
Stay safe, ride safe.
