Rainy dayz…

It’s been a real nightmare over the last couple of weeks esp for bikers.

The first couple of weeks in Dec was the worst. Rain that lasted for dayz.

Even my granny’s place in Keluang was flooded.
My granny’s place is about 5ft elevated from the road and the water totally covered the main roads and nearly seeped into the house.

Everyone thought that the worse was over…
Coz after that… Some papers mentioned that "some authorities" said that good weather was coming…

But last week, the flood came back & this time, it was another 2ft higher. The authorities had to use boats to send food / rations. Sigh.

Then these papers then said… Looks like we are in for more bad weather… again…

But it’s been quite sunny over the last couple of dayz.
Sometimes I think I’d rather trust my own instincts when it comes to the weather.
:D

Anyway, on my way there the previous week, the NSHW aka North South Highway had plenty of pot holes… varying in sizes & depts. But what surprised me was that many / most of them were mended. The road from the 2nd link to Air Hitam exit was about 70-80km. But the unmended pot holes were quite…. minimal / little…

Where as some of the roads in SG… sometime really dunno what to say… There is this relatively big & deep pot hole on the Upper Serangoon / Tampinese Road turning into the TPE… It’s been there for the last 2 weeks & still no repairs.
Sigh…

Also something that I noted… Over the last couple of dayz when the roads were wet most of the time… esp roads that are less used… became slippery… really slippery.
When I took a closer look, there seems to be a slightly slimy substance on the surface of the road… In the tarmac… believe it or not… Moss were starting to form.

Did it really rain THAT much??

Anyway, to those who is riding… be extra careful esp when the road starts to get wet again.

Talking about slippery… Now a dayz… fly overs are a common thing…
Towards my place, there is this Seng Kang flyover towards Punggol… Over TPE.
These flyovers used to have gaps for allowance for expansions & contractions. In the past, these holes were filled with a black substance which may be tar… But now a dayz… the authorities uses some steel joints that zigs zags like monster’s teeth.
Anyway, these things are about 10" wide… & they are super slippery!!!

The darnest thing about it is that these are usually @ the start & @ the end of the flyovers… But then… That is where they have traffic lights to allow vehicles to turn as well…

Well to provide a better pict… Bikes have 2 wheels… duh…
When either wheel loses "grip" on the road… Unlike cars… they skid & fall.

Ok… going back… If anyone on a rainy day was riding a bike with cold tyres made of hard compound taking a corner there @ 30-40km/h… which is a decent speed… will have a very high chance to…. Kiss the tarmac.

As I need to travel on that road @ least once a week… And my bike’s tyres are hard compound & cold when I get there… Well what I would do is… make a really really slow & wide turn. As I will stay upright as I pass the metal piece, then start to turn.

Then pick up like hell…

As I alwayz tell my friends…. Ride safe.
